A very nice review, it has been a while. I very much agree. The episode does not do a lot for the plot, but there are a few interesting things going on. One of the things that I most agree is with the Knights of Byzantium point. They are nicely introduced here, to be completly forgotten until 'Spiral', in wich by then they end up looking just like a plot device for the episode, since they were never explored.

Hope to see reviews more often. Also agree that you shoukldwait until you finish with the show and later review season 8.

I really agree with Mikejer here. While Buffy was all over Riley in season 4, this comes with a new relationship. Let's not forget Buffy was on the rebound. Riley captures her attention and takes her mind away from Angel. She is very into him in season 4, but Buffy is totally different after her enconter with the First slayer in 'Resltess', she mentions this in 'Buffy Vs Dracula' an right away we star seeing some problems. Riley is suprised that Buffy told them about her encounter with Dracula right away. Then we see how it gets to him that Buffy was bitten by Dracula. From 'Real Me' and foward we see that Buffy has a lot going on with her,her focus on slaying, new training, Dawn, and Riley is not her main focus like he used to be in season 4. He picks up this here in 'Real Me', in 'Out of My Mind', 'Family' and so on.

While I find the score given by Mikejer a little high, I like this epiosde and agree with the review.

I think too that Rikey is most to blame for the faults. Buffy was clear with him in "Dommed" of how the relationship could go and that the slayer stuff was a lot to deal with, however, he accepted the challenge. I just wanted to point out that she slowly changed her treatment of Riley, she really pushed him away, but I still think he was wrong in doing what he did and later giving her an ultimatum.

I always liked how in Buffy a lot of the times everyone had strong points, no one was wrong or right, in this case they both made mistakes, but they both had strong arguments, and you as a viewer are forced to choose your side.

Dingdong, I have to say that I desagree. I don't think that the issues and reaction of Riley are stupid. We see really early on the relationship(A new Man) that Riley is going to have trouble adapting to Buffy's strenght. He comes from a military background and traditional american values where men are the ones that save the day and the strongest. This is an issue and reactions that a lot of men would had in the same situation.

I agree a lot, I find the plot like you mentioned contrived and I used to not like this episode, dont know why, now I love it. I find Riley and Buffy´s argument in the cave great.

I have to say, this is a huge surprise for me, there is a lot to like in this episode, but I never had been that attracted to it. The episode is not even in my season five top 10, however I agree with almost everything that you said.

"Superstar" | View Comments7 | cayayofmMar 22, 2006
Personally, I preffer 'Where the wild things are' over 'Superstar', but that is just my pick. Superstar just doesn't hold my attention, I had tried to rewatch withouth luck.

Mikejer you mentined on your review how the pace of the episode was slow and a lot of scenes feels like padding to fill time, well is somehow true. In the commentary of the episode Douglas Petrie mentioned that the episode was too short, almost 8 minutes and they had to writte new scenes to fill, like the scene of Willow talking to Tara about Faith among others. Overall this episode feels just like what it was, like a set up, althogh a good set up.

Oh, and about Who are you? you mentined how it does not have a lasting effect on the series, but then you mentined how there wa a lot of character development for Faith. I think the conssecuences of this episodes have a lasting effect on Faith, this experience is what drives her to do what she did in Angel and later to change. We don't see her again until season 7 in the series, but when she comes back she is a different woman.

Talking about Dopenganglands. Mikejer you recently watched Pangs where Anya says: "so this is Angel", it seems like she does not know who he is, but Angel and Anya met in Dopelganglands, they don't actually talk but they have various scenes together and I belive that they both are together when they sent Vampire Willow back.
