In order to not get into the tedious, overplayed melodrama that is the Spike vs. Buffy debate I'll just say this. Angel yes always remains in a portion of Buffy's heart, but the thing is she moved on. He was her first love and what she needed at that particular time. If we recall the reason she said your above quote was not to rehash her old flame, but to prove that desperate times call for desperate measures and in order to save the world and all be a part of being the slayer is sacrifice. Of course, you do not think that she has grown out of that feeling which makes sense, but for the sake of the show she had to, she had to have character development and her relationship with Angel was stuck in high school, and in two different solar systems of the Whedonverse. Furthermore, I think that at this point in the season and series, it was a time to tie up loose ends and that is why Angel's cameo served an importance as closure. Also at this pointust s I think it is important to note Buffy's love for Spike, no matter how strong of a shipper you are, one may their tender moments really saved this season. Big Fan @MikeJer "Villains" | View Comments3 | SpikeFan May 15, 2011 She killed him alright. You can't get much more dead than being flayed.... "Something Blue" | View Comments4 | SpikeFan May 13, 2011 Yes I agree with you on the massive amounts of foreshadowing. Even Giles being blind playing a clairvoyant role. In later seasons Giles is not as much in the loop about Buffy's life and his role as her watcher slowly disintegrates over time. Willow of course gets her first taste of powerful magic which is the premise of season 6. There was even the momentary foreshadowing of the return of Amy from rat form. This episode's greatest foreshadowing was of course Buffy and Spike's relationship played out as many wished it could have, but alas for the sake of the show could not be that happy and sparkly. This episode was genuinely hilarious and had some very good dialogue between the characters. Plus the scene when Buffy is feeding Spike in the bathtub with the Kiss the Librarian mug is genius, one of my favorite screen shots of all time. "Halloween" | View Comments5 | SpikeFan May 8, 2011 I think it is funny when Xander says, "its funny but beating up that pirate gave me a weird sense of closure" when in S7 it turns out that his costume is a pirate and then he'll wear an eye patch after Caleb gouges out his. A bit of unconscious foreshadowing I guess. "Seeing Red" | View Comments6 | SpikeFan May 4, 2011 Haha yeah I totally agree with wishing it never happened. Hence my name here, I really wish that it could have been the fanciful happily ever... but alas it was important for both characters, and in order for the establishment that there needs to be trust in order for there to be love, and not just passion. Of course I love Spike's questioning at the end when he says "what have I done, why couldn't I do it". Him being stuck in the world between monster and man. Whether to be guilt or frustrated. Which sets up the mild suspense to whether he is on a mission for the removal of the chip or the gaining of his soul. The soul makes all of the difference and like you said the evil factor is in favor of Warren because he does all of this WITH a soul, and Spike is a very unique vampire, and we see that. Like you said Mike the rape scene is a very special prospective, unlike anything I have seen on TV before, the viewing of the scene while incredible hard to watch is special due to the switching perspectives and the altering empathy allows one to the rising emotions and thought process of both sides. When I think of Spike I always think of Monster Inc (stay with me on this one). The Monsters are not particularly evil (some are) and go about daily lives, but in order to sustain their daily living they must harness the screams of children, much like Spike needs blood (particularly Slayer blood). HOWEVER, what they find out is much more valuable than screams is laughter, much like a Slayer's or Buffy's love is much more important than his blood lust for her. Well that my mediocre connection. "First Date" | View Comments7 | SpikeFan May 4, 2011 She never loved Spike until the end of course, but she slips up here and insinuates that she already had. "First Date" | View Comments8 | SpikeFan Apr 30, 2011 Maybe I didn't see you write it in your review... but did anyone catch Buffy's convo with Willow. She said "Why does everyone think I'm still in love with Spike?!" Well that is a major discrepancy due to that fact that Buffy never loved Spike!! She couldn't trust him, last season she merely "liked" him and "needed" him to use. That is a major hole right there, how could the writers let that slip?? "Once More, with Feeling" | View Comments9 | SpikeFan Apr 29, 2011 Wonderful episode... Top 3 in my book. That kiss at the end was amazing (sorry to sound like a fangirl). So full of desperation. SMG singing was such a wonderful surprise and her saying "I want my fire back" was layered so deeply into this season. The singing allows for so much of the subconscious plot of S6 to come to the surface. People's secrets are out and they'll have to deal with the consequences. Willow's face alone can speak for the utter realization that maybe some things shouldn't be altered with magic (even if it brought us a wonderful S6 and S7!!!!) "Fool for Love" | View Comments10 | SpikeFan Apr 28, 2011 Well, everyone else has basically said it... I LOVE THIS EPISODE. The epitome of perfection. I actually cried at the end, that is definitely saying something. The subway scene is probably one of the best fight sequences ever delivered on film. Echoing Inception's anti-gravity duel. The character development added so much profound depth to Spike's character. Before, he seemed to have become just a comically observant side character, but no, Spike stepped out in a huge way for this episode. The sexual chemistry was enchanting, leaving me with goosebumps. I take off my metaphorical hat to the writers, they created such wonderful works of art, that are unrivaled and just lovely!! Of course the line "you think we're dancing?" Spike says, "that's all we've ever done." is enough to make me die right here, right now. Sooo good!!! There are those out there that believe Spike and Buffy are no match for Buffy and Angel... but I think the back story here gives so much validity to the destiny between Buffy and Spike. He has the fated task and lust to bring down Slayers, a thirst for their blood, and Buffy is of course that Slayer, but different because his lust for blood... is turning into a urning for her love. Fate's strong connection in this wonderful series is obvious in this episode as the Dance of Death leads two "souls" together whether they know consciously (Drusilla of course does) or not. The end scene echoes the actors' ability to act out a scene without the utterance of any audible vernacular (as scene in Hush - another fabulous episode). And of course the chaos demon part made me literally laugh out loud. :D haha glad to see everyone still loves Buffy the Vampire Slayer as much as I do!!! | |
