Also I find Cordelia just so likable in this episode. If you watch her through the episode, she does all these nice little things like warning Xander to "be careful" and bringing him food and coffee amongst other things. It makes her very endearing and I'm not just talking about Charisma Carpenter's good looks.

I also find that the Core Four are quite unfair towards her even if she is a little annoying and tact free!

Really enjoyed this episode...if only the early standalone nature of the series could have come up with compelling standalones in S1 and S2! I'm really loving the change in tone this season. Buffy Seasons 1, 2 and 3 all had a similar tone because of all the characters being based in high school. Buffy Season 4 had a different tone being set primarily in UC Sunnydale. And then S5 and S7 shared a similar tone. I can't really describe the tone of Buffy S7...it feels kind of homely and cosy.

Really want to commend Azura Skye's performance here and Alyson Hannigan's...and because she doesn't get enough praise Michelle Trachtenberg. Oh and I had to laugh at Xander not knowing what Googling meant! How quickly times have changed!

@ Susan,

This is obviously a continuity error but one can fanwank and say that Spike in his insane condition may have only believed in his fragile mind that Drusilla touched him.

Hey MikeJer, you made a minor mistake in your review. When referencing Faith and "Who Are You?", you have in brackets (4x22) instead of (4x16). :)

I know this isn't by you Mike but what does the acronym ED stand for? I was thinking it was a mistake and the writer meant ASH (Anthony Stewart Head)?

Mike, I love your reviews but I'm going to have to respectively disagree with your comment on Michelle Trachtenberg's "acting limitations". I thought both SMG and MT were phenomenal in this episode and MT showed lots of subtlety in her acting! I always feel myself get teary eyed when Buffy says "Is this hell?" and Dawn replies in a really hurt, confused voice "No" and also when her voice breaks when she says "I've TRIED (to stay strong)" For such a young age, I could really sympathise with poor Dawnie who is simply annoying and bratty most of the time.

I do agree that the scene was a little dragged out but I think it worked to highlight the Summmers sisters confusion and shock.

Season 5 ha been very heavy so far. I'm glad we get a highly camp light hearted episode for a change.

@ Alan,

I'm also watching the series for the first time but it does say at the top of every review on this site that the review may contain spoilers from ANYWHERE in the show!

I have to disagree with people saying Michelle T is a bad actress. I hear that Dawn becomes pretty much unbearable in S6 but right now I think the writers have just made Dawn too petty and immature and sadly poor Michelle Tratchtenberg has been given the title of most annoying regular Buffy character.

I think Michelle, Sarah and Kristine all played a blinder on the acting front in this episode!

Nathan, the computer still being on during the blackout is not a 'Bad' thing because they were using a laptop which runs on a battery. :)

What annoyed me about this episode was how the barman just tells Xander casually that his brother's a warlock! I mean - come on - the supernatural is supposed to be secret and the barman shouldn't know that Xander would know about it!

I actually thought Young Buffy looked really like SMG! Also, it's quite common for hair colour to darken with age so Buffy could have had blonde hair aged four and light brown as she's older. I know when I was 3 or 4, I was blonde but now my hair is a very dark brown.

The one thing that bothers me about this episode is how Xander stakes Theresa in the funeral home, the funeral staff aren't suspicious and don't hear anything and no-one comments on Theresa being dust on the floor. The writers never put any thought into the deaths of minor characters. Plus the werewolf looked ridiculous although the CGI on the morphing into werewolf was fantastic!

Did anyone notice Cordelia telling Xander that he needed "a year supply of acne cream". WTF?! Xander's skin is completely devoid of spots. I think with this show, they like to make out that characters are ugly or nerdy or perfectly average and flawed looking when although they cast your typical sexy Hollywood actor or actress.
