"Smile Time" | View Comments2 | LouisaAug 1, 2011 Please continue reviewing the rest of the Angel episodes. I enjoy reading them, and I've been reading your reviews before watching them so I won't miss anything. I appreciate the point of view, the reference material, the big picture, the commentary. Good job! I think the curse is lame, by the way. It's essential to Angel's character, true, or it was, but it's hard to sustain belief in it's power when Spike got his soul back without a curse, and when the curse was done by a witch. Someone as powerful as Willow should be able to edit the text and lose the perfect happiness clause. Willow was just a beginner and in the hospital with brain trauma the first time she re-cursed Angel, after all. Wesley should be able to handle it. Does season 4 tell us that the curse has a "higher purpose" in keeping Angelus on standby? Well, maybe if there had been an Angel Season 6. . . Hey, what about reviewing FireFly or Dollhouse while you're at it? Yup, asking a lot. "The Price" | View Comments3 | LouisaJun 13, 2011 The short blonde hair doesn't serve Cordelia at all. Supposedly she just came back from a sunny paradise vacation, so maybe that explains it. Also, C. Carpenter is 32, and it's getting harder to hide her maturity, especially in a character role that has been through what Cordelia has been through in the not even three years yet since she graduated from high school. The Scooby gang in Sunnydale at this same point is deep into disintegration in late season 6, for compare and contrast. Joss is a kind of genius in making the whiny teenager who keeps drawing everyone into trouble (Dawn) and the angry teenager who would be a big bad if not for Angel's devotion to him (Connor) so integral to the story that even I have to agree that they belong. "City of" | View Comments4 | LouisaJun 5, 2011 I just started watching Angel again from the beginning on Hulu. It's truly a wonderful series, and now that a few years have passed it's great to see how well it holds up. The Connon/Cordelia arc in Season 4 is so cringe-worthy that it put me off the show for a while, but reading reviews like these helps put things back in perspective. Thanks! | |
Well done! (meaning the review)
I agree that Connor's behavior around Jasmine doesn't work. Connor did what he did because the writers wanted Angel to take the helm of Wolfram and Hart. Angel, to give his son a "normal" life (he should know better after Buffy), joins up with the biggest villain ever, and lets his friends follow him without knowing why. And they did. First they were dazzled by Jasmine, and then knowing what had just happened, they still got in the limo.
Season 5 was excellent, even though it took the entire season to find a way out of Season 4. Spike's presence helped a lot. And still one of the finest shows ever on television.
